The Youth Ag Scholarship was established to honor Herb Townsend's commitment to supporting young people in agriculture. This scholarship continues his legacy by helping elementary and high school students in Meagher County pursue agricultural education and experiences.

The 2026 Herb Townsend Youth Ag Scholarship award is $500 to support youth agriculture education in Meagher County. Partial awards may be granted as well if the full amount is not needed.

About the Scholarship
The Herb Townsend Youth Ag Scholarship provides financial assistance to elementary and high school aged students in Meagher County to attend agriculture education camps or otherwise support youth agriculture activities. This program honors Herb's lifelong dedication to agriculture education and his passion for helping young people discover their potential in the agricultural industry.
What Can Be Funded
The scholarship can be used to support a variety of youth agriculture education activities, including but not limited to:
- Registration fees for agriculture education camps
- 4-H camp attendance and related expenses
- FFA (Future Farmers of America) conference and camp fees
- Livestock show and competition entry fees
- Agriculture-related workshop and training program costs
- Educational materials and supplies for agriculture projects
- Travel expenses to attend agriculture education events
- Other activities that support youth agriculture education in Meagher County
Eligibility
This scholarship is open to:
- Elementary and high school aged students
- Residents of Meagher County, Montana
- Students interested in pursuing agriculture education or activities
Continuing the Legacy
Through this scholarship, we honor Herb's vision of supporting the next generation of agricultural leaders. His belief in the power of education and the importance of agriculture continues to guide this program. Herb helped establish four 4-H clubs during his time in Meagher County, and this scholarship ensures that his commitment to youth agriculture education lives on.
